Put it out there

Put it out there

Lots of goodness happening around here lately! Especially on the "putting-my art-out-there" front (and yes it's exciting and intimidating, and no you don't ever get used to it)

First if you haven't already, grab the latest issue of Somerset Apprentice: it is packed with awesome art and inspiration. Actually, it's probably my favorite issue to date.

Which makes me even prouder to have my "Art, if necessary" winged key featured on its gorgeous pages (with full stepped-out instructions so you can create your own!)

* Special thanks to my beautiful friend Jessica for taking this pic at her local bookstore!

Also, I am thrilled to have my art included in the latest "Incite: Mixed Media" book. This year's theme is "the art of story-telling". So inspiring, and I am not nearly done exploring it...

The featured painting is a most loved, very special one called Refuge (read more here). My take on little red riding hood? I remember when I painted her, it felt like witnessing a soul emerge on the canvas (and to think I almost gave up in the middle of it all at the time...).

Yes I am: because I'm on a mission to make mixed media art better known on my side of the ocean, not just as a craftsy hobby vaguely resembling scrapbooking (and don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful scrapbooking artworks out there), but as authentic ART.

So all of you creative people (and that means, yes, YOU), whatever your art is, whatever makes your soul sing, please put it out there. It deserves it, you deserve it and above all the world needs it!

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
