Encaustic explorations

Encaustic explorations

The magic of wax... Transluscent... sensual... textured... natural... luminous... raw... layered... dimensional... luscious... soft... warm...

I am still completely smitten. Wax feels so natural, so "home" really... So today is a time to honor this new, wonderful and unexpected turn in my creative journey, these small yet magical beginnings.

I've been so amazed by the response I got after posting my first encaustic explorations last month. And to think that it all started with a crockpot and a humble tin can...

I'm about to upgrade my studio setup a bit (with the addition of a griddle and some muffin tins...) but before I embark upon this new phase of my wax experiments, I really wish to share the joy that it has been so far. Which is why I decided to upgrade my computer skills too, and put together a little video. I'm hoping to create some tutorials in the future and this is a first step... Enjoy!

I have 11 pieces finished by now, and all have already found their new home, which feels totally awesome. I know in my heart of hearts that each original piece I create is meant for a very special person somewhere on the planet, and it fills me with joy every time such a beautiful encounter happens. I make art because it lights me up, and then it is meant to fly away into the world and bring this light to other souls.

Also, a little reminder to all you amazing creatives out there: I have started this work as part of Kellee Conrad’s 100 artworks challenge and it's still time to join! It's free, self-paced and there's an amazing, supportive community of creative souls. It's the perfect opportunity to explore a new medium, theme, format, to create a new body of work or simply to make art a daily practice.

Thanks everyone for your continued support on this journey of discovery ♡
